Q&A

Thanks for joining us, Ramanjeet! How did you become a Flight Ops Engineering & support?

I began my career path at Honeywell Aerospace as a JR Systems Engineer working on AIRBUS A350 XWB wing anti-ice protection system for a year.

I later went on to Bombardier Aerospace for about 10 years working on a vast number of positions such as MRB Engineer, Stress Engineer, and Aircraft Performance Engineer on the Global and Dash 8 family of aircraft, and A220 (formerly C-Series).

Having worked on the manufacturing side of aviation, being able to work at NAVBLUE and see the airline side, but still be in close proximity to an OEM (Airbus), was very appealing to me. This is what led me to embark on this new challenge to pursue a career in Flight Ops Engineering and Support at NAVBLUE working on the AODB & N-Flight Planning products.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in aerospace engineering?

My parents always encouraged me to break through gender barriers and pursue a career which is not only limited to men.

Coming from a family of engineers, my grandfather, a civil engineer, designed and built his own family home in India, which we often visited throughout the years when I was young.

These strong influences in my early life, along with my fascination of aircraft, made becoming an engineer an easy choice.

How is a day in the life of a Flight Operations and Support person at NAVBLUE?

A typical day at NAVBLUE for a Flight Operations and Support personnel entails handling AODB customer queries for customization of Engine Failure Procedures (EFPs), and N-Flight Planning queries for adding customer & aircraft specific performance data.

It is very fulfilling to see my work create value for our customers on a daily basis, while ensuring revenues for our company. I am fortunate to work with such a great set of individuals who are always so supportive and lively, it’s never a dull moment.

Last week we celebrated  #GirlsInICT day, if you would have to empower a young girl by sharing who your favorite women in technology is, who would you say?

Kalpana Chawla was an Indian born American astronaut and aerospace engineer who came from Karnal, India. She embodies hard work, determination and perseverance which are all qualities that make a successful engineer.

Did you encounter difficulties as a woman in ICT?

Though my overall experience in our industry has been great, in my early years I did feel a bit of bias towards women in my sector. Over the years, I have noticed a positive change in the trend of women in ICT for the better. This platform is a prime example of the positive changes and it also allows further conversations for women and to blur the lines of gender inequality.

What would you say to a girl or a young woman that is thinking about studying an ICT or STEM career?

Never second guess yourself. The sky’s the limit. You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it!
