Safety and Regulatory Manager

Summary

NAVBLUE, an Airbus Company, is currently seeking a Safety and Regulatory Manager to join our growing team. Reporting functionally to Head of Quality, the Safety Manager is responsible for managing the Safety Management function within the organization.  This includes understanding maintaining the system, its interfaces, documentation and application within the business.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide SMS support and governance to all associated Navblue teams and activities including acting as a mentor to the business on SMS topics.
  • Partner with relevant Navblue teams, providing consultation and guidance on effective corrective and preventative actions, and identifying situations where the SMS could be more effective or updated as a result of non-conformances
  • Maintain and assure the necessary audit activities internally and externally required to fulfil the annual audit objectives
  • Manage the interfaces with NAVBLUE Quality & Certification Teams, Airbus Quality, Customer Services, Safety and Programs as required to ensure a common and harmonised approach to SMS activities
  • Own the change control procedure ensuring its adherence and application across the NAVBLUE business
  • Oversee and maintain the risk register associated to the Quality, Certification & Safety activities
  • Support all departments to ensure conformance with the SMS including:
    • Ensure that Manuals, Procedures and instructions are well defined and documented for the SMS activities in line with the QMS expectations
    • Consult with management & production teams on development of process specific instructions and procedures that fulfil the QMS and also enhance general quality and efficiency
    • Provide awareness & training for NAVBLUE to support adherence to appropriate regulations & standards
    • Mentor more junior team members in company process technicalities, complex application of root cause analysis and corrective actions for process improvements
    • Apply knowledge of air navigation and aircraft performance to assist in the review and suggestion of quality improvements for production processes, methods of instruction and quality check procedures
    • Ensure procedures and training materials for various departments adequately addresses flight operations, customer use of the end-product and quality output
  • Ensure coordination with relevant Navblue functions and their preparation for annual EASA DAT and/or SMS related audits. This includes;
    • Maintain and assist in communicating the overall company audit schedule, ensuring that all departments are prepared and equipped, to ensure conformance with the Quality System, regulatory standards and documented procedures
    • Conduct internal audits and supplier audits and support Customer audits and Regulatory audits as required
    • Lead wash-up meetings and facilitate agreement on corrective and preventative actions Industry trends, regulations & standards
  • Maintain and develop NAVBLUE’s Safety Management program
    • Ensure that Flight Safety investigations are handled according to the rules and regulations
    • Participate to any Flight Safety Committees
    • Oversee and maintain the risk register associated to the SMS activities
    • Determine the definition of safety, or potential safety, issues within Navblue
    • Manage non-conformance and monitor non-conformances to verify that corrective actions have been taken, ensuring timely resolution or escalation as necessary, and close non-conformances with proper completion and evidence
    • Maintain SMS documentation and track/analyse key quality metrics as required for continual process improvement and to aid decision-making
    • Participation in Quality Management Review Meetings as required
    • Assist the Quality Director in devising Quality Management programs and support the broader Quality team as required
  • Maintain and develop NAVBLUE’s EASA DAT Certification
    • Assist with monitoring regulations and best practices issued by authorities and partner with management and production teams to ensure that they are integrated into product
    • Ensure Navblue interests are assured through researching changes in industry standards
    • Liaise with appropriate authorities on behalf of the organisation, including Civil Aviation Authorities, EASA, Certification Bodies and customers as necessary
    • Advance NAVBLUE interests by contributing to rulemaking conferences and working groups as required
    • Provide awareness & training for NAVBLUE to support adherence to appropriate regulations & standards

 

Educational Requirements

  • Vocational qualification, diploma or degree in relevant subject
  • Auditor course by an accredited organization (preferably Lead Auditor’s course)

 

Required Skills/Experience

  • Strong knowledge of quality systems and their implementation
  • Knowledge of safety systems and their interactions within the business, or previous knowledge of safety management in the aviation sector
  • Familiarity with DO200 and DO178 standards and applying these requirements and processes
  • Previous experience managing teams and projects; capable of delegating & monitoring tasks, providing feedback to improve performance and engaging and motivating staff to deliver on objectives
  • Effective time management skills; capable of managing multiple competing priorities and meeting deadlines in a dynamic technical environment
  • Interpersonal skills capable of collaborating with various departments to deliver the quality function while accommodating department-specific needs
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in the aviation industry
  • Experience in a Quality role in an AS9100 environment
  • Able to effectively communicate: capable of understanding departmental processes & procedures via verbal & written communication; capable of articulating concepts to stake-holders with varying levels of familiarity with quality systems and processes
